Cigar Boxes - Cheap Pen Storage

I have recently developed a love of wooden cigar boxes. Not only are they cheap and good looking, they smell great and are perfect for fountain pen storage.

On the bottom of each box, I just use inexpensive vinyl shelf liner. If you are more crafty, you can also use slotted display trays from a company called GoPens.

Need some cigar boxes? Visit your local tobacco shop and they will probably sell them to you for somewhere around $2-5 each.  Some shops will even give you a few for free.  You can also find nicer ones on eBay or order ten of them for around $25 + S/H from a company called Thompson Cigars.  Give them a try!

TWSBI Eco Review

by Tony Thomas I know I am late to the party, but I finally bought a TWSBI Eco fountain pen, made in Taiwan. Due to its amazing popularity, the Eco has been a difficult pen for me to score. Every time I was ready to pull the trigger, it was on backorder. Now I see why. To their credit, TWSBI is company that puts a lot of thought into the design of their pens. They are always experimenting with new and innovative designs, building prototypes and getting feedback from the fountain pen community. You can always see what they are working on by checking out their Facebook page. A pen like the Eco is the result. "Eco" is short for "economical", and at less than $30, this pen is pretty amazing. Aside from some cheap fountain pens from India, this is the least expensive piston filler you can buy. Hero 100 Fountain Pen

by Tony Thomas If you have looked for a vintage Parker 51 aerometric in good condition recently, you probably have a bad case of sticker shock. I have never owned or used a 51 (sadly) but decided to spring for the next best thing: a Hero 100.  Produced in the old Parker pen factory in Shanghai, China, the Hero 100 is a fairly accurate tribute to the venerated 51 complete with 14K gold nib.  The price?  $40 shipped (eBay). I have used my 100 for about a week and, after a bit of nib tuning and smoothing, I have deemed it good enough to be a daily writer.  It is a big step up from the Hero 616 and is much more solidly built.  Well worth the money, in my opinion!
